Folks in County Line are settling down for cooler days.  The wind made havoc at the Carolina Balloon Fest Saturday but Sunday was kinder to balloonists. We have lots of community events planned for family enjoyment.

The V-Point Ruritans invite all senior adults in the community to Senior Bingo at 2 p.m. today (Thursday) at the V-Point Building.  Enjoy a fun afternoon of snacks, fellowship with others, and games with prizes for everyone.

Society Baptist Church will have a “Fall Festival” from 3-6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29. Everyone is invited to come and enjoy a fun time with family and friends. There will be lots of activities including hayrides and pumpkin-painting.There will also be lots of good food to eat. For more information, please call Pastor Jeff on 704-546-7624.

Piney Grove AME Zion Church will celebrate Hallelujah Night this Saturday.  Activities begin at 6 and include hayrides and games for all ages plus lots of delicious food. Church members invite everyone for a night of family fun and fellowship.

Calvary Baptist Church will have a community breakfast at 9 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 30 in the fellowship hall. Worship will follow at 10:30 a.m. Church members invite others for breakfast and worship.

Society Baptist Church will have a gospel singing at 6 p.m. Sunday. The featured group will be the Freedom Way Quartet. Church members invite everyone for an evening of gospel music.

Clarksbury United Methodist Church will host a Trunk or Treat from 6-7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31. All children in the community are invited.

Embrace of Society will meet at 5:45 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2 in the fellowship hall. A light meal will be served at 5:45 and the program featuring plans for the coming year will begin at 6.  The women invite others.

Make plans now to dine with the Baptist Men of Society at their annual Thanksgiving dinner and auction fundraiser for families of need at 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 5 in the fellowship hall. The dinner menu includes country style steak, ham, creamed potatoes, green beans, rolls, dessert, and drink. Donations will be accepted. Enjoy a delicious meal with family and friends and help families of need have a delicious Thanksgiving meal.

Calvary Baptist Church will celebrate homecoming Sunday, Nov. 6. The Gospel Voices Quartet of Iredell County will present gospel music at 11 a.m. A covered-dish dinner will follow in the fellowship hall.

For the next few weeks,  Society Baptist will be collecting large cans of yams and green beans, boxes of stuffing and instant potatoes, and cans of cranberry sauce for the Thanksgiving boxes of food to be given to families of need in our area. Upcoming community events include a country ham and sausage breakfast hosted by V-Point Ruritans from 6-10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 5 at the V-Point Building; Thanksgiving dinner and auction fundraiser for families of need hosted by Society Baptist Men Saturday, Nov. 5; and Calvary Baptist Church homecoming Sunday, Nov. 6 with revival at 7 p.m. Nov. 7-9.

Our community sends get-well wishes to Lucille Beck and Dean Boger. Lucille had outpatient surgery last week and is recuperating at home. Dean has been at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center and had surgery last Friday. Nell P. Barnhardt is in rehab at Iredell Memorial Hospital.Timothy Campbell remains at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center. Connie Young has been transferred to Whitaker Care of Forsyth Medical Center for rehab.

Join us in prayer for the Lord’s divine healing and blessings upon Lucille, Dean, Nell, Timothy, Connie, and other residents who are having heath problems. Continue to remember in prayer the families of the now 27 people who died as a result of Matthew and the many other folks who have been affected by the storm.  Hundreds of folks are still in shelters.   

Remembering Our

‘Miracle on the Ridge’

Thanksgiving is just around the corner. This week we pause to remember our “Miracle on the Ridge” on Oct. 19, 2009. Weighing 2lb. 14 oz., Caleb Williams surprised everyone on Ridge Road as he made his debut. We thank the Lord that today Caleb is a healthy, active 7-year-old first grader. We hope you enjoy seeing the pictures of his progress through the past seven years.

To recap briefly our community news special from December 2009; Perry and Vickie Williams were married Oct. 18, 1988, and made their home on the Williams farm on Ridge Road.  In October 2009 Vickie had her routine colonoscopy and was shocked when the radiologist told her she was pregnant. The obstetrician then told her she was six months pregnant.  Well, that meant three months to prepare.

A week or so later, the couple were snacking and looking at a movie as they celebrated their 21st wedding anniversary. During the night Vickie began to have indigestion. New at pregnancy, the couple wanted to make sure her indigestion would not affect the baby and went to the Davis Regional ER.

Perry and Vickie were shocked again as doctors said she was in labor.  Well, perhaps Caleb was tired of being ignored by his mother’s doctors; he made his debut an hour or so later about 7 a.m. at Davis Regional. He spent the next two months at Catawba Memorial with lots of wires and monitors hooked to his little body. The first week of December he joined his parents at their  home on Ridge.

The Lord has blessed Caleb with great loving parents and blessed Perry and Vickie with a long-awaited bundle of joy.

It’s a blessing to see such a sweet happy boy.
