Bertie K. Draughn

Bertie K. Draughn, 92, formerly of Calahaln Road, Mocksville, died Friday, Sept.30, 2016.

Born Bertie Mae Kimmer on July 8, 1924, she was the youngest daughter of the late John and Emma Beck Kimmer.She was the widow of the late Lester Martin Draughn who died in 1972. Mrs. Draughn worked for a number of years at Monleigh Garment Co. in Mocksville. Much of her life was spent as a homemaker for her family. She cooked, canned, crocheted and stayed active. As long as her health permitted, she enjoyed trips to the beach. But she really enjoyed her times of fellowship and talking with others. She was a faithful member of Calahaln Friendship Baptist Church where she carried out whatever tasks assigned to her.

Survivors: 2 sons, Randy “Gene” Draughn (Patricia) and Ricky Lee Draughn (Debbie) of Mocksville; 4 grandsons, Wayne Jr., Matthew Eugene, Justin Edward and Jacob Charles Draughn; 4 great-grandchildren, Brittany, Courtney, Honor and Cannon; and a great-great-grandson, Camden.

She was also preceded in death by: a son, Wayne Martin Draughn Sr.; a grandson, Patrick Martin Draughn; 2 sisters, Alma Beck and Ellen Steele; and 4 brothers, Dewey, Foy, Fred and George Kimmer.

A celebration of life service was conducted at 11 a.m.Monday, Oct. 3 at Davie Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Carroll Jordan officiating. The family received friends in the funeral chapel one hour prior to the service. Burial followed in the Ijames Baptist Church Cemetery.
