Dewey Ervin Gray, 54, of Woodleaf, died on Aug. 29, 2016.

He was born in Rowan County on March 17, 1962, son of the late John E. and Doris Mayfield Gray. He graduated from West Rowan High School. He loved to work on cars and attend car races.

His mother, Doris M. Gray, preceded him in death in1915.

Survivors: a daughter, Lucinda Geter of Asheville; a brother, Kenny Gay of Woodleaf; a sister, jennifer (Michael) White of Cooleemee; his grandmother, Lizzie Mayfield of Cooleemee; several aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends.

His funeral service will be held on Friday, Sept. 2 at 3:45 p.m. at Wrwin Temple CME Church. The Rev. Ervin Hannah will officiate, and burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will received friends at the church beginning at 3 p.m.
