Elizabeth James ‘Jimmie’ Blackwelder

Mrs. Elizabeth “Jimmie” James Blackwelder, 86, of Mocksville, died on Aug. 5, 2016, at Bermuda Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation Center after a brief illness.

She was born Feb. 27, 1930, to the late Anna and Walter James and was raised in Alexander County. A resident of Mocksville for more than 60 years, she and her late husband, Paul A. Blackwelder, were faithful members of First Baptist Church and worked in the garment manufacturing industry. She enjoyed many friends, especially her Sunday school class and breakfast club at Hardee’s.

Survivors: her daughters, Debbie Blackwelder Smith (Randy) of Hickory and Annette Blackwelder of Tallahassee, Fla.; son, James Blackwelder (Teresa) of Mocksville; 5 grandchildren, Anna Kilby (Scott) of Fleetwood, Teri O’Neal (Jamie) of Cooleemee, Paul Smith (Alexa) of Banning, Calif., Scott Smith (Tiffany) of Ft. Worth, Texas, and McKenzie Willoughby (Kirby) of Lexington, Ky.; and 6 great-­grandchildren, Megan, Ethan, Colton, Milly, Rivers and Cooper.

A funeral service was conducted at 2 p.m., Monday, Aug. 8 at Eaton Funeral Chapel with the Rev. A. Shane Nixon officiating. Burial followed in Rose Cemetery.  The family received friends Sunday, Aug. 7 at the funeral home.
