Twins Cody and Caleb Martin, who announced they were transferring from N.C. State shortly after the Wolfpack’s 2015-16 basketball season ended, will resume their careers some 2,500 miles away – at the University of Nevada.
The Mocksville natives starred for Davie from 2010-11 through 2012-13, leading the War Eagles to a 63-19 record over three years. After playing for Oak Hill Academy as seniors, they spent two years at N.C. State.
Last season, Caleb averaged 11.5 points, 4.7 rebounds and 30.5 minutes, earning 19 starts. Cody averaged 6 points, 4.4 rebounds and 2.3 assists in 25.8 minutes, and he started the final 16 games.
Both started in an ACC Tournament loss to Duke to end State’s season.
State coach Mark Gottfried is bringing in guards Dennis Smith and Torin Dorn, and Terry Henderson, who missed all of last season with an ankle injury, will also be in the mix.
Thus, the twins’ minutes on the floor could have been affected next season.
So the twins will go from the Wolfpack to the Wolf Pack. They will watch from the sidelines during the Wolf Pack’s 2016-17 season, forced to sit out as redshirts.
They will have two years of eligibility remaining when they take the floor in 2017-2018.
