On April 29, the Venture Scouts  of Troop 732 went to Rock Hill, S.C. and took a qualification class at the Giordana Velodrome.

The velodrome is a 250-meter Olympic standard bicycle track.  The class is designed to teach skills needed to race in Olympic and national competition.

In the group were John Passero and Danny Dzereiweski of Troop 732, Matthew Forrest of Troop 525, Will Harden of Troop 919, and 11-year-old CJ Burford. Adult leadership was Venture Advisor Will Mills, Katie Burford, and Venture Committee member David Mills.

The group met with Kyle Knott, the cycling coach for Belmont Abbey College, who discussed the collegiate cycling program and scholarships.

After getting up on the 47-degree banking, one of the Scouts was heard to say: “It’s the best scary time I’ve ever had.” Now, they are all looking forward to some summer racing.
