James Thomas Evans Jr.

Mr. James Thomas Evans Jr., 66, of Milling Road, Mocksville, died Sunday, Dec. 27, 2015, at his home.

He was born Oct. 28, 1949, in Rowan County to the late James Thomas Evans Sr. and Anner Forrest Evans and graduated from Davie County High School. He was maintenance director for Davie County Schools of whom he was employed for 34 years. In 2006, he was recognized as the top director of maintenance in the state. He was also Scoutmaster for Center United Methodist Church where 29 Scouts advanced to the Eagle rank. He had been a member of Center Volunteer Fire Department. He loved helping everyone.

Survivors: his wife of 40 years, Martha Marlowe Evan  of the home; 2 sons, Rodney Evans (Melissa) and Bradley Evans (Brandy), all of Mocksville; 7 grandchildren, Kobe, Peyton, Leah, Jessica, Kaitlyn, Justin and Hanna; 2 sisters, Liz Harmon (Bill) of Florida and Mary Jacobs (Jay) of Charlotte; an aunt, Lib Massey of Mocksville; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was to be conducted at 1 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 31 at Center United Methodist Church with the Revs. John Erwin and Billy Manners officiating. The body was to be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial was to follow in No Creek Primitive Baptist Church cemetery. The family was to receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 30 at Eaton Funeral Home.
