Charles Franklin McSwaim

Mr. Charles Franklin McSwain, 72, of Salisbury, died on Sunday, Nov. 29, 2015.

He was born on Jan. 22, 1943 in Davie County, the son of Mildred Link McSwain and  Richard James McSwain Sr. He was a graduate of Davie High School and a veteran of the US Navy  during the Cuban Missile Crisis, serving from 1960-1966.Before retiring he had worked for the Grand Prairie Police Dept. Dallas, Texas,  Mocksville Prison Unit for 20 years retiring as a sergeant,  also he had worked for Cone Mills for 20 years and the NC Dept. of Corrections High Rise Unit for seven years. He was a member of Community Baptist Church of Mocksville and a member of the Kennedy Hall American Legion Post 106.

He was preceded in death by his father, Richard James McSwain Sr. and a brother, William Floyd McSwain.

Survivors: his wife of 54 years, Ruth Cable McSwain;  mother, Mildred Link McSwain of Cooleemee;  daughter, LaDonna Overcash and husband Tim of Salisbury; brother, Richard James McSwain Jr. of Mocksville; sister, Joyce Carter of Cooleemee; 2 grandchildren, Derek Michael Overcash and wife Heather and Daniel Aaron Overcash and wife Anna; and a great-granddaughter, Maddie Overcash.

A memorial service will be held later.
