Mr. Charlie Wilson Johnson, 81, of Madison Road, Mocksville, died Saturday, Nov. 21, 2015, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem.

He was born Jan. 7, 1934 in Davie County to the late Raymond Wesley and Mittie Frances Coe Johnson. Mr. Johnson was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Mocksville where he served as a deacon, elder and Sunday school superintendent.  He was known for his gravy at church breakfasts. After serving 25 years in the NC National Guard, he retired as a platoon sergeant.  While serving in the National Guard, he received Outstanding Soldier Recognition. He retired from Ingersoll-Rand in 1996. Through the years, neighborhood children would ask him to come out and play and he often would, endearing him to friends and neighbors. He had been involved in Scouting and had served as Cubmaster. For more than 25 years, he coached Little League Baseball.  Mr. Johnson enjoyed playing local softball and was a sports fan.

He was preceded in death by: 5 siblings, Paul Johnson, Odessa Taylor, Gerline Goss, Rayford Jack Johnson and Wesley Junior Johnson; and two sons, Donald Thomas Johnson and Gary Steven Johnson.

Survivors: his wife, Lethia Bell Pope Johnson of the home; 2 sons, Terry Wayne Johnson of Mocksville and Timmy Eugene Johnson of China Grove; 3 siblings, Beulah Honeycutt of Locust, Gary Landon Johnson of Mocksville and Elsa Dean Hartley of Tennessee; 4 grandchildren, Terra Johnson Parrish (Dale), Thaddeus Wayne Johnson (Catherine), Donald Wesley Johnson and Stephanie Carter Johnson; and 2 great-grandchildren, Cela Lear and Maddock Jace Parrish.

A funeral service was to be conducted at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 25 at First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dana Fruits officiating.  The body was to be placed in the church 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial was to follow in Rose Cemetery with military graveside rites. The family was to receive friends from 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 24 at Eaton Funeral Home.
