Nellie Elton Cartner Wright

Nellie Elton Cartner Wright, 88, died Saturday, Aug. 22, 2015 at Bermuda Village Health Center in Advance.

She was born Dec. 26, 1926 in Iredell County and was the daughter of the late William Ray Cartner and Nellie Jones Cartner. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Wright (Holly Farms); brothers, William Ray Cartner Jr., Robert Eugene Cartner, Richard Neil Cartner and a sister, Betty Jane Cartner Michael.

Mrs. Wright graduated from Harmony High School in 1945. She first worked as a nurse for Dr. Robert Lowery in Salisbury, and retired as a dental assistant to Dr. Vic Andrews of Mocksville. She was a member of Clarksbury United Methodist Church. She was known as the orchid lady as she devoted time and energy after retirement to growing orchids.  She was generous to her family.

Survivors: sisters, Claire Eleanor Cartner Foster (James) of Hainesport, N.J., Bobbie Jo Cartner Sees (John) of Advance, and Tommye Elizabeth Cartner Campbell (Henry) of Winston-Salem; a brother, Kenneth Perry Cartner of Statesville; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.

The family received friends Monday, August 24 at Bunch-Johnson Funeral Home. The funeral service honoring Mrs. Wrights’ life was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25 in the Westmoreland Chapel of the funeral home with the Rev. Donnie Durham officiating. Entombment followed at Clarksbury United Methodist Church.
