Schools open for students Aug. 24

The big yellow buses will soon return to the roads as students make their way back into the classroom Aug. 24.

Teachers and staff returned to work last week, and open houses are being held at schools this week.

School hours are: 8:10 a.m.-2:50 p.m., elementary; 7:55 a.m.-3:09 p.m. middle; and 8:20 a.m.-3:20 p.m. at Davie High.

Hours at Central Davie are 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. for middle school, 8:30 a.m.-3 p.m. for high school, and out of school suspension is 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m.

At the Early College, hours are 8:20 a.m.-3:15 p.m.

Breakfast in grades pre-K through five is free. In grades six through eight, it is $1.10 and in grades nine through 12, it is $1.35.

Lunch prices are $2.20 for pre-K, $2.45 for grades K through five, and $2.70 for grades six through 12.

Central Davie Academy: Beth Weatherman, principal.

Cooleemee Elementary: Karen Stephens, principal, and Cindy Stone, assistant principal.

Cornatzer Elementary: Dr. Cinde Rinn, principal, and Kimberly Stacey, assistant principal.

Early College High: Denise Absher, principal.

Davie High: Doyle Nicholson, principal; Kathy Courtemanche, Tabatha Hudson, Alvin Rubin and Johnathan Sidden, assistant principals.

Mocksville Elementary: Jennifer Swofford, principal, and Thomas Connors, assistant principal.

North Davie Middle: Mary Foster, principal, and Cindy Myers, assistant principal.

Pinebrook Elementary: Brooke Preslar, principal, and Jennifer Lynde, assistant principal.

Shady Grove Elementary: Mary Margaret Sullivan, principal, and Dr. James Bumgarner, assistant principal.

William R. Davie Elementary: Rex Allen, principal, and Tammy Reavis, assistant principal.

William Ellis Middle: Alicia Holman, principal, and Jon Williams, assistant principal.

Superintendent Dr. Darrin Hartness said he is excited to begin a new school year and welcomes new and returning students, parents, and staff.

“We truly believe all children can grow academically, identify and develop their own talents and leadership skills, and find success,” Hartness said. “We are excited to begin the new school year and to continue implementing the strategies we have outlined in our 2013-2017 Strategic Plan.
