Last fall, the Davie County Sheriff’s Department started receiving calls about prescription narcotics being illegally sold in the southern part of the county.

Although the investigation is ongoing and more arrests are expected, a group of some 17 individuals face various drug charges, including conspiracy. They will all be tried for conspiracy in addition to the drug charges, said J.D. Hartman, sheriff’s department chief.

“Looking at the total picture, they’re all involved in that conspiracy,” he said. Not all of them knew each other, but there was a connection with a main goal of keeping prescription painkillers available at all times. Some would pay others to go to the doctor to get a prescription for specific drugs, others would steal the drugs, and some would sell their own prescriptions.
