Davie County Schools will host the 5th Annual Arts Smart Festival sponsored by the Ashley for the Arts national initiative at Davie High School in the cafeteria, gymnasiums, and art classrooms on Saturday, May 9 from 1-5 p.m.

Every arts educator in Davie County Schools will be bringing students to perform or exhibit their art work. The activities are designed to entice all ages to participate in art and music making.

Performances will include musical theatre, film productions, and dance, as well as choral and instrumental music.

“The community is invited to this wonderful event focused on Davie County families,” said Dr. Darrin Hartness, superintendent.

The theme is Tapestry of Talent, an afternoon of experiencing and participating in the arts.

Due to the donation of $10,000 in the spring of 2014 made by the Ashley for the Arts initiative, arts educators from across the county were able to apply for grants for equipment, instruments costs and repairs, technology for the arts classroom, and instructional supplies.

This year, Ashley Furniture Industries is providing another grant to support Arts Education in Davie County Schools.
