Laura Grey Bowles Whitaker

Mrs. Laura Grey Bowles Whitaker, 90, of US 158, Mocksville, died Sunday, May 3, 2015, at her home.

She was born March 15, 1925, in Davie County to the late Calvin and Viola Beeding Bowles. Mrs. Whitaker was a member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir as her health permitted, was president of the UMW (United Methodist Women) and had served as an officer for 11 years on Lexington UMW District team. She enjoyed singing in the Davie County Senior Chorus.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Forrest Whitaker.

Survivors: a son, Jerry Whitaker (Nancy) of Jacksonville, Fla.; 2 grandsons, Calvin Whitaker (Hillary Tuttle) and Bradley Whitaker (Jenny); 4 great-grandchildren, Joshua and Jacob Whitaker and Isabella and Violet Tuttle; and 2 special nieces, Elaine W. Armsworthy (Rick) and Barbara Whitaker.

A funeral service was conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May 6 at Oak Grove United Methodist Church with the Revs. Sam Lewis, Virgil Hutcherson and Donald Funderburk officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. The family received friends Tuesday, May 5 at Eaton Funeral Home.
