Norman B. Smith Jr.

Mr. Norman B. Smith Jr., 70, died on Tuesday, April 14, 2015.

He was preceded in death by: a sister, Jane Elizabeth; his father, Norman B. Smith Sr., and his mother, Evalyn Smith Wall.

Survivors: his wife, Phyllis Call Smith (The two celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary three weeks prior in the ICU at Forsyth Medical Center. Tears fell as the two shared cards expressing their love for one another); 3 children, Scott, Tara and Shannon, who have remained in Davie County, where each raised their own family; Scott and wife Amy and their 2 children, Camryn and Wesley; Tara and husband Chad Atkins and their 2 girls, Victoria and Lauren; and Shannon and wife Sherrie and their 4 children, Ryan, Kati, Austin and Brittany; a great-grandson, Mason Chase Smith, son of Camryn Smith; his brother, David Hall Smith and wife Patsy.

He worked as a teenager at the family service station, Smith’s Esso in Downtown Mocksville. He loved fast, old cars. In 1971, he started his employment with Ingersoll-Rand where he worked until his health forced him into early retirement.  He was a servant of Christ who loved his church, Blaise Baptist. He believed in prayer and that it was the way to God’s heart. Some of his favorite scriptures include Psalm 23 and Ephesians 3:19-21.

A funeral service was conducted at 6 p.m., Friday, April 17 at Blaise Baptist Church. The family received friends at the church following the service. A graveside service was conducted at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 18 at Rose Cemetery.
