DeWaine Dale Guldberg

DeWaine Dale Guldberg died on Friday, April 14, 2015 after living in Bermuda Commons Nursing & Rehabilitation Facility in Advance.

The son of Harold and Grace Guldberg, he was born in Sheffield, Iowa and was an only child. He grew up in Coulter, Iowa, a Danish community. Early in life he learned excellent work ethics from his parents. He graduated from high school in 1942 and joined the Army Air Force the following December during World War II. He served in the 60th Troop Carrier and Glider division and was sent to North Africa and later to Sicily and Italy. After the war ended he returned home in 1945 and was honorably discharged. In February of 1946 he married Barbara Jean Burriss and they had two daughters, Gloria Grace and Cynthia Anne. The Guldbergs were dairy farmers in Iowa until 1960. They came to know Christ as their Savior and in December of 1960 moved to southern California where they were active in church and became acquainted missions to other cultures among them the Navajo Native Americans in Arizona. In 1975 they joined the Navajo Gospel Mission and served until 1988 on the Navajo reservation and at the main office in Flagstaff. The couple had a burden for missionaries’ need of rest and a place to do so, and with the helping hands of many built a home for that purpose in Sonoita, Ariz. From late 1995 until 2001 they lived in Colorado and North Carolina near family.

Surviving: his daughters, Gloria and husband Richard of Mocksville, daughter Cynthia of Tucson, Ariz.; and a granddaughter, Christina Paolicelli (William) of Warrenton, Va.

A service of thanks and remembrance was held at Bermuda Commons on Sunday, April 19. His memorial service will be held on Friday, May 15 at 2 p.m. in the Worship Center of Reynolda Church’s Village Campus, 2200 Reynolda Road in Winston-Salem. The family will receive friends in the chapel following the service.
