Willis Lawrence ‘Pete’ Riddle

  • Mr. Willis Lawrence “Pete” Riddle, 88, of Advance, died at home on Friday, April 3, 2015 surrounded by his family.

    He was born April 27, 1926 to the late Willis Vance and Sallie Cope Riddle. He was preceded in death by Dolly Vogler Riddle, to whom he was married for 67 years. As an only child, he was a part of Dolly’s family, the Voglers. The happiest years of his life were spent running his country store for 20 years. He later worked with his sons at Riddle Tractor for 27 years until retiring to care for his wife during her later years. He was proud to be a dedicated charter member of Green Meadows Baptist Church.

    Survivors: sons, Vance (Karen) and Gene Riddle; also grandchildren Anna Mitchell (Michael) and Grace Riddle; great-grandchildren, Caroline, Charlie and Sidney Mitchell; and sisters-in-law, Gladys Hockaday, Garnette “Dot” Bodsford, Jackie Vogler and Betty Vogler.

    Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 5, at Green Meadows Baptist Church with the Revs. Josh Green and Ray Davis officiating. The family received friends prior to the service.  Burial followed in the church cemetery.
