Betty Jane Conley Campbell

Mrs. Betty Jane Conley Campbell, 76, of Mill Run Drive, Mocksville, died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2015 at her home.

Mrs. Campbell was born Nov. 25, 1938, in Mingo, W.Va. to the late Lola Bearle Davis Conley and George Thomas Conley Jr.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Ray Campbell; a sister, Dorothy Stover; and a granddaughter, Cassidy Campbell.

Survivors: her children, Debbie Baines of Tennessee, Lisa Savage (Gregory) of Lewisville, Eric Campbell of Kentucky and Julie Smith (Fred) of Advance; 9 grandchildren; and 8 great-grandchildren.

A funeral service was conducted at 1 p.m., Sunday, March 1 at Weaver Mortuary in Williamson, W.Va. Burial followed in Pine Hill Cemetery in Louisa, Ky. The family received friends Sunday at the funeral home.

Robert ‘Bill’ Bright

Mr. Robert “Bill” Bright, 71, of Advance, died Thursday, Feb. 26, 2015 at Forsyth Medical Center.

He was born Aug. 30, 1943 in Spartanburg, S.C. to Oris Smith Bright and James William Bright.  Mr. Bright graduated from Davie High School in 1963 and was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army. He retired from Carolina Tile and Marble.

Mr. Bright was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Leroy Bright; a nephew, Jason Bright; and a niece, Christy Bright.

Surviving: his wife, Carolyn Beauchamp Bright; a daughter, Lisa Craig (Kenneth) of Coolemee; a son, Ronald Bright (Maryann) of Advance; 2 brothers, Virgil Bright (Dorothy) Mocksville and William Bright (Cathy) of Advance; a sister-in-law, Virginia Bright of Inman, S.C.;  5 grandchildren, Brandon Warren (Nicole), Dylan Bright, Devin, Bright, Kaitlyn Craig and Hunter Craig; a niece, Teresa Navey (William); nephews, Roger Bright (Deanna), Bobby Bright, Scott Bright (Janie) and Josh Bright (Krystal) ;and 2 great-grandsons,  Carson and Dakota Warren.

A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 3 at Redland Pentecostal Holiness Church with Pastor Dave Richardson, the Rev. Joel K. Boyles and Tim Dunn officiating. A graveside service with military honors was to be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 4 at the National Cemetery in Salisbury. The family received friends Monday at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel.

June Rose Wilkins Bradley

Mrs. June Rose Wilkins Bradley, 80, of Advance, died Sunday, March 1, 2015 at the Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home.

She was born June 1, 1934 in Iredell County to the late Windsor and Lula Brandon Wilkins. Mrs. Bradley had retired as the assistant clerk of Superior Court.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Billie Delano Bradley.

Survivin: a daughter; Debra Barry (Stuart) of Lewisville; 3 sons, Paul Bradley (Sara) of Charlotte, Mark Bradley of Winston-Salem and Glenn Bradley of Durham; 3 grandchildren, Alexander Bradley, Delaney Barry and Cameron Barry and extended family, Willann, Lowell and Anna Baker of Clemmons; and many nieces and nephews.

A private family graveside service was held Wednesday, March 4 at Macedonia Moravian Church Graveyard by the Rev. Jeff Carter. The family received friends Tuesday at Hayworth-Miller Kinderton Chapel.

Vivian Elizabeth Sherrill Dickens

Vivian Elizabeth Sherrill Dickens, 91, of Harmony, died Sunday, March 1, 2015 at Gordon Hospice House.

Born in Iredell County on July 7, 1923, she was the daughter of the late Robert B. Sherrill and Ada Marie Reavis Sherrill. Mrs. Dickens worked as a seamstress at Monaleigh Garment Co. and was a member of Rock Spring Baptist Church.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Edward Dickens, whom she married in May 1942. He died May 1993.  She is also preceded by 2 sons, Robert Lee Dickens and Jason Clark Dickens; a son-in-law, Perry Campbell; a daughter-in-law, Sue Ellen Anderson Dickens; and her brother, Roy L. Sherrill.

Survivors: her son, Jerry Wayne Dickens and wife Lisa of Mocksville; her daughter, Sheila Campbell of Harmony; daughter-in-law, Diane Dickens of Yadkinville; 5 grandchildren, Chris Dickens, Robin Beck and husband David, Jeremiah Campbell, Joanna Campbell and Rebecca Dickens and husband Sid; 7 great-grandchildren; a great-great grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family was to receive friends Wednesday, March 4 from 1-2 p.m. at Rock Spring Baptist Church. The funeral service was to begin at 2 with the Rev. Steve Hedgecock officiating.  Burial was to follow in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Chris Dickens, Jeremiah Campbell, David Beck, Larry Goodwin, Dwight Goodwin and Leroy Overcash.

John Calvin ‘JC’ Cassidy

Mr. John Calvin “J.C.” Cassidy, 90, of Mocksville, died Monday, March 2, 2015, at his home.

He was born April 5, 1924, in Chesterfield County, S.C., to the late Andy Blue and Effie Ellen Bowles Cassidy. Mr. Cassidy was a member of First Baptist Church in Mocksville. He was a member of the Telephone Pioneers and the Davie Family YMCA for 20 years. Mr. Cassidy had been a Mocksville volunteer firefighter and had played Legion baseball. He was a foster father to several children. He enjoyed working with metal and wood working. Mr. Cassidy had been a cattle farmer and loved all animals.

He was also preceded in death by 4 siblings, James “Red” Cassidy, Tom “Blue” Cassidy, Ruby Greene and Geneva Clodfelter.

Survivors: his wife of 70 years, Edna Hayes Cassidy of the home; 3 children, Don Michael Cassidy (Charlene), Sandy C. Boyd (Cecil), all of Mocksville and Kathy C. Meadows (Bob) of Clemmons; 4 grandchildren, Michael Scott Cassidy, Christina N. Cassidy, Cecil Bradley Boyd and Melissa Cox (John); 6 great-grandchildren, John and James Thomas, Kaitlyn and Cassidy Cox and Patrick and Liam Boyd; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m., Friday, March 6 at First Baptist Church in Mocksville with the Rev. A. Shane Nixon officiating. Burial will follow in Westlawn Gardens of Memory in Clemmons. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.

Zachary Adam Fletcher

Zachary Adam Fletcher died at home on Feb. 28, 2015.

Zachary was born June 29, 1990 in Naples, Italy. Zak shined God’s brightest and purest light of love. Zachary celebrated life each day and lived with great joy and enthusiasm. He readily shared hugs and smiles with everyone he met. He loved his mama, brothers, friends and caregivers. Some of his favorite activities included Special Olympics, Challenger Baseball, Sponge Bob, flirting, dancing, going to the YMCA, and brightening everyone’s day.

Survivors: his mother, Tammy Fletcher; his father, Dennis Fletcher and step-mother, Ji Fletcher; brothers Sam and Dave; aunt, Jennifer Tucker; caregiver, Kjuan Holman; family, Tony, Denise, Analee, Peyton, and Nick Johnson, Chip, Jennifer, Barrett and Emily Tucker, Denis and Mary Johnson, Steve and Jason Gayle.

He was preceded in death by his Grammie and Pa.

A celebration of life was held at Sunrise United Methodist Church, Lewisville, on Tuesday March 3 at 5 p.m.

Elizabeth ‘Bea’ McMahan Bailey

Mrs. Elizabeth “Bea” McMahan Bailey, 78, of US 64 East, Advance, died Friday, Feb. 27, 2015, at Davis Regional Medical Center in Statesville.

She was born on July 1, 1936, in Madison County to the late Andrew Charles and Flossie Geneva Robinson McMahan. She was a member of Fork Baptist Church. She was a devoted caregiver to her parents for many years. She was the co-owner of Bea and Fran Fashion Shop in Mocksville for 15 years. She enjoyed painting, artwork, canning and gardening.

Survivors: her husband of 60 years, Jim Bailey of the home; a son, Joey Bailey (Reneé) of Advance; 2 granddaughters, Amber Caudill (Josh) and Lindsey Bailey (Rusty O’Connor); a great-granddaughter, Kaya Grace Caudill; a great-grandson on the way; 2 sisters, Judy Ashton (Bruce) of Maryland and Frances Venable (Max) of Mocksville; and several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m., Friday, March 6 at Eaton Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Robert Garrett officiating. Burial will follow in Fork Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

Everine Carson Rivers

Mrs. Everine Carson Rivers, 85, of Etchison Street, Mocksville, died on Monday, Feb. 23, 2015.

Born Sept. 13, 1929 to the late Charlie and Lillie Mae White Carson in Carnesville, Franklin County, Ga., she graduated from the Franklin County School System in Carnesville, Ga. and attended Beulah Rucker Vocational School in Gainesville, Ga. where she studied education. She was married to Charlie Ray Rivers on March 13, 1948, with whom she shared 66 years.  She was an excellent seamstress, enjoyed fishing, cooking, gardening and traveling, especially to Atlantic City.  As a faithful member of Mt. Zion Holiness Church, Mrs. Rivers served on several boards, last as a Deaconess.

Mrs. Rivers was also preceded in death by 2 children, Harold Rivers and Vickie Rivers; siblings, Lula Mae Williamson, Elease Young, Garland Carson, Lenzie Carson and Willie Carson.

Survivors: her husband, Charlie Ray Rivers of the home; daughters, Sarah Rivers of Winston-Salem and Gloria (Richard) Pruitt of Mocksville; special daughter, Patricia Rivers Taborn (Ron) of Winston-Salem; grandchildren, Tammy, Kimberly, and Larria Cunningham, Harold Keith, Anthony, and Tina Rivers, Amanda Pruitt, Candace (Terrick) Heckstall, and David Pruitt, Jose, Alisha, William, and Hubert Rivers; her siblings, Alice Rucker, Louis Carson, Marie Carson, Barbara Dubose, George Law, James Henry Carson and Leon Carson; 16 great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral service was held Saturday, Feb. 28 at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Graham Funeral Home.  The Rev. James Clement officiated, assisted by Minister Jason Ijames, and Bishop James Ijames delivered the eulogy. Burial followed in Mt. Zion Holiness Church Cemetery. The family received friends at the funeral home one hour before the service.

Eva Mae Williams McAllister

Mrs. Eva Mae Williams McAllister, 94, formerly of Greenhill Road, Mocksville, died Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2015 at the home of her daughter.

She was born Jan. 10, 1921 in Davie County to the late John Frank and Beatrice Mae Ellis Williams. Mrs. McAllister was a member of No Creek Primitive Baptist Church. She enjoyed working in her home and outside in her yard.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Sanders Franklin McAllister; a sister, Lucille Williams; an infant sister; 2 brothers, Edward and Odell Williams; an infant brother; and a son-in-law, Eddie Cregar.

Survivors: a daughter, Joyce Anne McClamrock (Robert) of Mocksville; 5 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-granddaughters; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Tony and Deborah Butner.

A funeral service was conducted at 3 p.m., Sunday, March 1 at No Creek Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Eddie Fowler officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.
