William Brady Barbee Jr.

William Brady Barbee Jr., 71, of Cherry Hill Road, Mocksville, died Saturday, July 5, 2014, at Forsyth Medical Center. 

He was born in Rowan County on March 31, 1943. “Junior,” as he was known to family and friends, developed and managed the landfill recycling center for Davie County which became a model center across the state. He was known for his skills as an operator of bulldozers and tractors. One of his most notable accomplishments was his involvement in the creation of the Carolina Bible Camp at Jericho Church of Christ. There, he constructed the lake, roads and softball field and graded the sites for cabins, the shelter and the cafeteria as well as many paths on the property. Other than his fondness of tractors, he enjoyed spending time fishing and camping. His greatest affections were his love of Jesus, family, and his church, Edgewood Baptist. 

He was preceded in death his mother, Lucille Barbee, who died on Dec. 1, 2013, and his little dog, “Tiny,” a loyal companion for a long time. 

Survivors: his wife of 37 years, Gale Bostian Barbee of the home; his father, William B. Barbee Sr. of Woodleaf; a daughter, Cindy Seabolt and husband Steve, and 2 sons, Jeff Crisco and Doug Crisco, all of Mocksville; 3 grandchildren, Zac Knight and wife Michelle, Brandi Knight and William Mauldin; and 2 sisters, Gail Lingle of China Grove and Linda Walls and husband Mike of Woodleaf; and many friends. 

A visitation for family and friends was to be held on Wednesday, July 9 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Davie Funeral Service Chapel. The celebration of life service was to be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 10 at Edgewood Baptist Church with the Rev. Frank Blankenship officiating. The body was to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial was to follow in the Rowan Memorial Park in Salisbury.
