Alfreda Ida Miller

Alfreda “Freda” Ida Miller, 85, of Oakshire Court, Mocksville, died Friday, July 4, 2014, at her home after a battle with pancreatic cancer. 

She was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. on Jan. 30, 1929, to the late Joseph Scandurra and Ida DiPietro Scandurra. Prior to retirement in 1995, Mrs. Miller was employed by the US Postal Service as a computer operator. When health permitted, she was an active member of her church, St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church of Mocksville. She enjoyed traveling. 

March 29 of this year marked the 56th wedding anniversary of her marriage to her husband, Phillip Miller, who survives. Also surviving: a daughter, Tina Marie Pickett and husband Michael of Mocksville; a son, Phillip Anthony Miller and wife Donna of Chesapeake, Va.; and 6 grandchildren, Aaron Stevens Miller, Taaron Alexandra Miller, Gabriel Matthew Miller, Maryssa Cheyenne Pickett, Shane Michael Pickett and Ariana Rae Pickett. 

She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Judith Marie Miller, on Nov. 11, 1966. 

The family received friends at the Davie Funeral Service Chapel on Tuesday, July 8 with a Rosary Service at 7 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial was at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 9 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with the Rev. Father John Starczewski officiating. Burial was in the St. Columba Catholic Cemetery in Chester, N.Y.
