New EMS Crew Part Of Proposed County Budget

Davie County will hire eight new EMTs and buy two new ambulances, if a proposed $52.8 million budget is adopted by county commissioners.
A public hearing on that budget will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, June 19 in the commissioner’s meeting room on the second floor of the county administration building in Downtown Mocksville.
The tax rate would remain the same at 66 cents per $100 of property evaluation.
Among other highlights pointed out by Interim County Manager Cecil Wood:
• elmination of funding for Northwest Child Development, with social services workers saying there are enough openings in day care centers in the county to handle those children;
• addition of a full time Social Worker III for child protective services and a full time adult Medicaid case worker, both needed because of increased workloads;
• schools would be funded at the same level as last year; and
• four new sheriff’s vehicles.
The budget does not include four new deputies requested by the sheriff, a new facilities maintenance technician and a part-time SHIIP coordinator/receptionist at senior services.
“This has been another difficult financial year for the county,” Wood wrote in his budget message. “Again, there were more requests than available revenues could support.”
He said the county is making every attempt to freeze vacated positions with negatively impacting the delivery of services.
