Dolly Spry Swaim

Mrs. Dolly Spry Swaim, 88, of Erwin Street, Cooleemee, died Saturday, May 3, 2014, at the Brian Center in Salisbury.
She was born March 20, 1926 in Davie County to the late Grady McKinnley Spry Sr. and Lillian Witty Spry. She retired from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill in 1992, and returned to Cooleemee to assist in the care of her mother. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Cooleemee, where she sang in the choir and assisted in numerous church activities as her health allowed.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Henry, in 1965; a sister, Jessie Pierce and her husband, Fred; 2 brothers, Grady Spry Jr. and his wife Dorothy and Jerry Spry; a sister-in-law, Jeanette Spry; brother-in-law, Worth Hendricks; and a stepdaughter, Gay King.
Survivors: a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Mathis and her husband Richard; a sister, Irene “Wink” Hendricks of Mocksville; 3 brothers, William “Bill” Spry (Claudean) of Marion, Ill., Doyle Spry of Garner and Aaron Spry (Linda) of Hiddenite; a sister-in-law, Ann Spry of Cooleemee; stepdaughter, Joyce Ring (Lawrence) of Lexington; and 2 stepgrandchildren, Gina White of Bermuda Run and Randy Harris (Debbie) of Mocksville.
A funeral service was to be conducted at 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 7 at First Baptist Church, Cooleemee, with Dr. Jeff Spry officiating. The body was to be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial was to follow in Legion Memorial Park. The family received friends Tuesday, May 6, at Eaton Funeral Home.
