EDEN (AP) — Authorities have charged a Stoneville woman with child abuse after police said her toddler was left in the car while she shopped.
A statement from Eden police said Robin Chevy Gabrielle McMahon, 25, is charged with misdemeanor child abuse and possession of a controlled substance.
The statement said officers were called to a Wal-Mart Thursday night after someone saw a child in a minivan crying. Officers broke a window on the minivan to get to the 19-month-old toddler after no one answered an announcement in the store to find the van’s owner.
Police said the toddler is fine and is now in the custody of the Rockingham County Department of Social Services.
McMahon is jailed under a $50,000 secured bond. It couldn’t be determined if she has an attorney.
