East Rowan’s girls outscored Hickory Ridge 18-8 in the fourth quarter in a 51-46 Southern Piedmont Conference victory on the road.
Shenell Pharr scored a team-high 16 points and Kelli Fisher netted 15 for the Mustangs.
Richmond signee Karleigh Wike grabbed 15 rebounds and scored eight points. East improved to 7-0 and 4-0 in conference play.
“We needed a game like that,” East coach Danielle Porter said. “Defensively, we showed some maturity and grew up as a team.”
Laura McManimen and Kiana Davis each scored 13 points for Hickory Ridge. The Mustangs play at Northwest Cabarrus Tuesday.

• East Rowan’s boys cut a Hickory Ridge lead to two points three times in the fourth quarter but couldn’t get stops in a 61-48 loss to Hickory Ridge.
HR’s Avery Metcalf scored 18 to lead all scorers.
Donte Means scored 11 to lead the Mustangs.
HR led 29-24 at halftime.
“We missed a dozen shots within 4 feet,” East coach Trey Ledbetter said. “You’ve got to make those.”
East fell to 2-5 on the year and is 0-4 in the SPC.

Northwest Cabarrus is having its first first annual alumni basketball game Stoday at 5 p.m. at the Northwest Gym.
The game is a fundraiser for the basketball team.
Some of the 1998 SPC champs are playing together for the first time in 15 years. Greg McKenzie, who coached the 1998 team, is planning to attend.
Registration has begun at the J.F. Hurley YMCA for boys basketball for ages 7-14.

The Saleeby-Fisher YMCA, East Rowan Branch, is registering for boys basketball.
This league teaches basketball skills and fundamentals along with YMCA core values. Games and practices are on weekdays.
The league is for grades 2-8, ages 7-14. Registration ends Dec. 21. Practice beings Jan. 6. The season begins Jan. 20.

CHAPEL HILL — Lamar Raynard’s 38-yard touchdown pass to Carlos Manning with 1:04 left helped T.W. Andrews beat Monroe 18-14 on Friday night in the Class 2-AA North Carolina High School Athletic Association championship game.
Raynard threw three touchdown passes for Andrews (14-1).
which won its third state title and first since 1991.
Marquell Cartwright rushed for 179 yards for Andrews, which won its 14th straight game after beating its previous 13 opponents by an average of 41 points.
Chase Bynum rushed for 131 yards for Monroe (11-4). His 12-yard touchdown run with 6:03 left put the Redhawks up 14-12.
Monroe advanced to the T.W. Andrews 27 before Devon Underwood’s game-ending sack of Zephaniah Wall.
Raynard also threw TDs of 28 yards to Justin Lea and 8 yards to Daquan Wade.
Tre’Shun Wynn had a 4-yard touchdown run for Monroe, which lost in its only other finals appearance in 1989.
