The Bermuda Run EMS site is closed – but residents in the area should still receive quick response to medical emergencies.

EMS crews are being housed at the Advance Fire Department a few miles south on NC 801 – still close to a majority of the population in the area, said County Manager Beth Dirks.

County commissioners are scheduled to discuss the issue Monday night. Among the decisions are whether to repair and add onto the building on Yadkin Valley Road or build at another site.

Commissioners will also discuss a more permanent temporary site. Working from the Advance Fire Department has gone well, Dirks said, and the county hopes to make a two-year agreement to stay there while decisions on a permanent site are made.

An EMS crew is housed in Advance 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

“We have some repairs and things that need to be done, and are weighing the options of what to do in the long run. We’re talking about the costs of building onto that station,” Dirks said.

No cost estimates have been made.

It was first thought that the Yadkin Valley Road site was infested with mold, but that is not the case, Dirks said. After several tests, no signs of mold have been found.

Mice had made home in the building, and although the rodents are gone, what they left behind may still be in the building, Dirks said.

Most likely, the walls will have to be opened and insulation taken out and replaced.
