Food Programs Get Boost From United Way

South Davie Middle School counselor Janice Weakland sent notes home with students. It asked if there was a need for food in the home over the weekends.
Last year, 45 families cited a need. This year, the number is 88. Last year’s sponsor is overwhelmed.
Marie Collins, director at A Storehouse for Jesus, said families coming in for food continues to increase. Every morning, some 50 families come in seeking food. Some are unemployed. Some have jobs, but they don’t pay enough to feed their families.
