The Davie Campus of Davidson County Community College recently hosted a job fair that featured area manufacturing companies looking to fill potential openings.
The job fair, held in partnership with Northwest Piedmont Workforce Board, had nearly 200 community members attend. Participants could network with companies, including Ashley Furniture, Pro Refrigeration, Amarr Garage Doors, Ingersoll Rand, as well as the staffing agencies Debbie’s Staffing and First Choice Personnel and more.
Company representatives such as Jim Vandergiessen Jr., chief executive officer for Pro Refrigeration, a manufacturer of chiller systems for large HVAC installations in Mocksville, said the company opened a new production facility in May.
“I have five or six openings to fill right now, and we plan to increase our workforce here by 20 to 25 in the next 12 months,” said Vandergiessen, who said the job fair was especially helpful in identifying potential candidates for positions.
Jeff Mang, productivity leader at Ingersoll Rand, a manufacturer that produces rotary and centrifugal air compressors, said he usually doesn’t attend job fairs but came in hopes of filling specific needs at the Mocksville plant. Mang’s colleague, Jacob Sutton, human resources representative, attended in the hopes of adding resumes to the general applicant pool for future openings.
