A 50-unit apartment complex for low-income elderly is being constructed in Mocksville.
Willow Pond Apartments is going up behind Walgreen’s on Yadkinville Road, and will include 32 one-bedroom and 18 two-bedroom apartments. It is scheduled to open next spring, with applications being accepted early next year.
“We hope it will become a welcoming home for many seniors here in Davie County,” said Roy Helm of the Wesley Community Development Corp., a division of the Western NC Conference of the United Methodist Churches. “Our hope and dream is that the residents and staff respect each other and help each other.”
This is the third such project for Wesley, which is working with The Affordable Housing Group. Single residents must have an income of $26,460 or less, $30,240 for a two-person household.
“This started almost two years ago when we decided we wanted to find a site for affordable housing for seniors in Davie County,” Helm said. The group has built seven single-family homes here.
