After 43 years in law enforcement, Mocksville Police Chief Robert Cook is retiring at the end of this month.
“I feel like Mocksville now has one of the best departments in North Carolina,” he said. “The cooperation between all agencies is the best in history.”
Cook started his career as a police officer in Thomasville, and followed that as a Davie sheriff’s deputy, Kernersville assistant chief and 25 years as a magistrate in Davie County. He was animal control director for 20 years.
He has been police chief for eight years.
“During my term here, we have remodeled the police department, built a state-of-the-art training center for all county law enforcement saving the county and town a lot of money.”
Cook said he is proud of the town and sheriff’s department efforts to fight drugs, raising a fund from $900 to $70,000. “Working with Sheriff Stokes, our departments have made more drug arrests and sent more dealers to prison than anytime in our history,” he said.
Cook said he is thankful for the town manager and board, and the public for supporting his efforts, “ … especially all my family who have stood by me missing birthdays, holidays and family functions when duty called.”
