The school board unanimously approved last week a plan that will be a blueprint for the system as they move through the next five years.
The 35-page plan was compiled by Dr. Larry Price, executive director of the NC Association of School Administrators and retired superintendent of Wilson County Schools. It is the culmination of a four-month process, during which Price headed up the Strategic Planning Commission, made up of school district leaders, students, principals, teachers, clergy, parents, county leaders, leaders from each municipality and other agencies that support the county. There was also an online survey that drew comments and opinions from 248 people, which became part of the plan.
Superintendent Dr. Darrin Hartness said: “I felt it was important to have someone come in, a neutral party with an unbiased view, who could listen to the viewpoints of people from across the county and gather input from a wide variety of stakeholders. This plan will become the framework for our organization and will guide our staff as we lead students and will help us to meet the needs of our students and our community even better.”
Price told the board Feb. 5: “You guys have a lot of things to be thankful for. You are doing great things and getting great results.”
