Teens Charged With Igniting Homemade Explosives

Two Mocksville teens were arrested Tuesday after setting off a homemade explosive device next to a gas pump in Mocksville.
Cody Hayes of Harding Street, and Patrick Sanford of Nancy Easter Loop, both 17, were each charged by Mocksville police with malicious use of an explosive device, damage to property and arson. Bond was set at $7,500 for each suspect. Hayes was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and a small amount of marijuana. They are scheduled to face the charges Sept. 29 in Davie District Court.
They are accused of putting firecrackers into a plastic bottle filled with other items, and igniting it next to a gas pump at Horn’s on Salisbury Street in Mocksville, said Mocksville Police Detective Stuart Shore. A clerk coming in for work just before 5 a.m. heard the explosion and saw smoke …
