The Bermuda Run Town Council took the next step toward getting a roundabout at the U.S. 158 gate entrance by entering into agreement with Kemp and Associates on the first phase of a feasibility study.
Almost since the town was created in 1999, traffic on the highway between the Twin City Soccer Complex and the Bermuda Drive gated entrance has been a major concern. The new four-lane bridge over the Yadkin River just to the west of the congested area has raised the level of awareness.
“The speed limit here was 55 for a long time, and we finally got it lowered to 45 a few years ago,” Mayor John Ferguson said at the town board meeting last week. “I think a roundabout is probably about our only chance to control that traffic out there.”
Town manager Lee Rollins agreed.
“I would agree with themayor, although I don’t want to presuppose the outcome,” Rollins said. “The one thing I am pleased about is that DOT is the one that initiated this conversation that said they would very much look at a study.”
Rollins said Kemp and Associates has done traffic studies in Davie County in the past and was a logical choice to further explore what they call “a traffic calming device” on U.S. 158 …
