Thomas “Tom” Webb was waiting at the Davie Board of Elections office Friday well before noon.
He was the first to file for a municipal office – putting his hat in the ring to be mayor of Cooleemee.
Filing continues until noon Friday, July 15 for the following offices: Cooleemee – mayor and commission seats held by Tommy Daywalt and Jean Snead; Mocksville – mayor; and commission seats held by J.C. “Buster” Cleary and Will Marklin III.
Also on Friday, Daywalt, Marklin and Mocksville Mayor Dr. F.W. Slate filed for re-election.
Webb, former Rowan County commissioner and member of the Cooleemee Planning Board, said he wants to see the town “move forward.”
“There’s a lot of good going on now, but there’s a lot of changes we need to make,” Webb said. “I would like to be up front with the people. I think I can help improve Cooleemee and improve the perception of Cooleemee.”
Management of the town can be more efficient, Webb said.
Daywalt filed for his second term on the Cooleemee board, and said he wants to continue his work on fixing drainage problems.
“Things are fairly decent right now … things like the recreation department are getting started … and we’ve got a good, working board,” Daywalt said.
“A lot of people asked me to run again. If somebody calls me, I’ll answer the phone, and I’ll call them back. I don’t run away from people on the street …
