County Leaders Upset With School Budget

Davie board of education members still don’t know what to expect from the county budget.
And county commissioners are still concerned that the proposed school budget is headed in the wrong direction.
The two groups met for an hour and a half Monday, and dollar figures for the county’s allocation weren’t mentioned. There was a lot of concern by commissioners over things in the proposed school budget such as supplement cuts and funding of positions. Two commissioners said they were upset because the schools didn’t follow their instructions.
“The school system is the only one without a zero-based budget,” said Commissioner Robert Wisecarver. The schools turned in a 12-page budget summary. The sheriff’s department turned in a 101-page detailed budget. “I would like to see the school board give us more of that. This (meeting) is to get information that we could not get from what you turned in.”
“I was very disappointed in not getting a zero-based budget,” said Commissioner Carl Humphrey.
