JV Football Could Be Exceptional

Last year Davie’s JV football team reeled off six straight wins for a 7-3 season.

Consider that Davie did that despite an 0-2 start and with 33 freshmen, consider this year’s team has 19 returners among 54 players, and you understand why coach Todd Bumgarner is confident the 2010 squad will become even more of a force.

“From what I’ve seen so far, we’ve got as many skill players as we’ve had come through in a group,” Bumgarner said. “We’ve got good running backs, good quarterbacks and we couldn’t ask for any more from our receiving corps.”

So the possibilities seem enormous when Bumgarner says, “I think the OL is going to be our strong suit. The other strong point that we’re going to hang our hat on is the DL.”

Bumgarner, a fourth-year coach with a 25-5 record, has 20 freshmen and 25 sophomores.

The offensive line should be exceptional, anchored by returners Heath Nail, Corey Gordy, Josh Cockman, Tyler Correll and Gunner Ginther. An imposing freshman at left tackle, Tripp McNeil, has dynamic potential.
