Still Rockin’: Davie Gets 20th Win In 1st Round

Hopefully, fans are enjoying this whole Davie baseball experience in 2012 because it may be a while before we see anything like this again. This is a sensational group of hard-nosed players who seem destined to make a deep run.

When the War Eagles opened the 4-A playoffs Friday against visiting Butler, they were looking for some payback - and they got it to the tune of 8-1. It avenged a 1-0 home loss to Butler a year ago when Davie packed it up early at 22-3.

“It was on my mind for a year,” said pitcher Ryan Foster, who was on the mound for the 1-0 offensive stinkbomb and Friday’s payback win. “That’s a tough conference they play in, and they think their conference is better than ours. It felt good to get them back.”

Fans are witnessing history. At 20-4, Davie has achieved 20-plus wins in back-to-back years for the second time in school history. Coach Mike Herndon’s 2006-07 squads were the first to do it.

Davie, hitting .353, has outscored opponents 178-57. The team ERA is 1.38 as Davie has held four straight teams to one or no runs.

It’s a sensational group led by a mighty 1-2 punch - Foster and Corey Randall.
