Dorothy Lee Dillard

Dorothy Lee Dillard, 88, died on Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2014 at Forsyth Medical Center following an extended illness. 

She was born July 26, 1926 in Guilford County, daughter of the late George David Lewis and Pearl Lewis. She was educated in the Davie County Schools, and at an early age, she joined St. John AME Zion Church. She was married to William Dillard Jr. To this union, nine children were born. Two sons, William and Dwight Dillard, died in infancy. Also preceding her in death were her husband, a daughter, Laverne Dillard; 2 sons, Larry Dillard Sr. and Terry Dillard; 2 brothers, Ernest Lewis and George Lewis Sr.; 2 sisters, Pearl Huntley and Rosa Lee Hines. 

Survivors: sons, Elton Lee Dillard and Ricky (Gina) Dillard, both of Mocksville; 2 daughters, Geanna Dillard and Patricia Redmon, both of Mocksville; a brother, Ervin Lewis of High Point; a sister, Darnella D. (Eld. Wardlow) Fraizer of Rural Hall; 21 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; a number of other relatives and friends. 

Her funeral service was held Sunday, Sept. 14 at 3 p.m. at Graham Funeral Home. Bishop James Ijames officiated and Eld. Wardlow Fraizer delivered the eulogy. Burial followed in St. John AME Zion Church Cemetery. The family received friends at the funeral home 30 minutes before the service.
