A high speed chase through three counties ended Friday morning after a man driving a stolen vehicle was apprehended - after being struck with a Tazer twice and being attacked by police dogs twice.
Two Davie sheriff’s vehicles were damaged in the pursuit.
Billy Ray East, 37, of Kernersville was charged Aug. 24 with larceny of a vehicle, possession of stolen property, fleeing to elude arrest, injury to property, assault on a government official, and resisting arrest.
According to Davie County Sheriff’s Chief J.D. Hartman, on that Friday around 1 a.m. Davie deputies were called to assist the Forsyth County deputies in pursuit of a vehicle traveling on Interstate 40 towards Davie.
“That vehicle turned out to be a stolen from Davie County, but we didn’t know that when the call was first received,” Hartman said.
The pick-up truck and trailer entered Davie at the 801 exit around 1 a.m. and two Davie Sheriff’s vehicle began traveling in front of the stolen truck.
“The suspect approached at a high rate of speed and did not slow down,” Hartman said. “He passed a deputy’s patrol car, swerved, and rammed the trailer into the side of the car. The patrol car wrecked and there was extensive damage, but no injuries.”
